HELP 4WD issues snow is coming
Hello all
OK it all started yesterday after getting in my parked truck(2002 SD 5.4,ESOF, auto.).Driving down the road I hear a LOUD metallic clicking sound coming from the area of my transfer case, it sounds like it’s trying to go in to 4wd but it’s stuck half way so I switch in & out of 4 hi & it goes away but comes back in a few minutes. I pull into a parking lot to play around with it & it will go into 4lo only about 50% of the time. Now on the way into work this morning I hear & feel a vibration just like when you drive over rumble strips on the highway & the truck will slow down a little but this only lasts a few seconds at a time. Any ideas what I should look for will be much appreciated because I’ll only have about 2 hours of daylight after I get home.

Hi Brian, I'm not a mechanic and I'm sure some of the 4x4 wizards here will be along soon but to me it sounds like something to do with the shift motor. Do a search on shift motor and take a look until your question gets picked up.
