OK Here we go again. I've had continual problems with this crate motor since I got it.
On initial startup the motor is nice and quiet, but after 3 or 4 miles a squeak develops that at first had me convinced it was a pulley bearing (water pump, air pump, etc.) But later I finally traced it to randomly place incorrect rockers (pushrod socket too small by 1000'ths inch) and by replacing rocker, fulcrum, stud nut and pushrod this would take care of the problem. Well, last week after an oil change with Prolong "Squeaky" started her routine again. So I went through what has become standard procedure of removing the valve cover and pressing my rubber mallet against each rocker until I find the offending one, and then replacing it. But last week I went up and down the valve train and couldn't find the durn (not Bruce) squeaker.
Any ideas guys?
If you have replaced all the valves, and are sure that the snoise is coming from them, it might be that there is a scuff in there. This is just a wild guess though, not based on experience.
