Hey guys, I just bought my first truck its a 5.4l gas reg. cab long bed f250 and im looking to do some performance and also a small lift or maybe a leveling kit Im not to sure on which yet... i cant seem to find any information on my truck to point me in the right direction on what to buy, I want to do a full exhaust on the truck along with a cold air intake and possibly a cam and some type of tuner any recommendations would be appreciated along with feed back from any one else that has done performance mods to there truck to kind of get an idea of what to expect out of my truck
as for the lift kit or leveling im not looking to do any intense off roading with my truck i just want a higher stance and more aggressive look on the truck at most like 4inch lift ive been looking at kits on suspensionconnection.com and found a couple but was told that by doing a prebuild kit was a bad idea because it doesnt come w/ everything i really need and will end up breaking componants on my truck.... again its my first truck and ive never done any type of lift before so i know nothing on this if any one could give me recommendations i would greatly appreciate it
is there anywhere in illinois that deals with ford trucks on a performance stand point as well as lifts/leveling kits?

Never had anywork done by them but sure do see some very nice trucks getting work done in there lot.
dont do a full exhaust or a cai...Super duties already run 3inch exhausts, if you want the sound just change out the muffler or take it out completely...Don't use a cai because they wont provide benefits the stock system is more than adequate. An aftermarket cai will also allow more dust particulates into the motor and shorten the life span. Use the money you save on these and buy a quality lift kit.
I just found there site and i was wondering on there combo packages it says it comes w a Custom Tuned X3 + SPD Ypipe Combo Kit for 2000-2004 Ford Superduty F/E Series Vehicles... would a aftermarket y pipe make a diffrence on these trucks? or should i just order the tuner?
and i take it that the custom tune is just a base map they use on all 5.4?
If you look at your y pipe now, you will see how ristricted it looks. I went with the combo package with tuner and y-pipe from Mike. Happy with the results. I think Mike has a dino graph showing his V-10 before and after y-pipe, so you can draw your own conclusions from there.
If you are adding a lift and some larger tires you might want to look at the gearing on the truck. Would add more than any aftermarket air kit will, and money better spent.
Gears gears gears! Then add a tuner. If you looking at a 4in lift I will assume 35-37" tires? If so look at 4.56-4.88 gears if you will go larger than 37" tires 4.88 or lower. Tuning will help but don't expect a powerhouse. A good quality suspension lift will not be cheap. Cheap kits tend to be mall crawler suspensions than don't travel. Better quality setups will have more travel and a better ride. I prefer function then form personally. You can get away with up to a 35" tire on a stock truck with minor rubbing.

tire wise im looking at 33-35 but i havnt figured out what i wanna do lift wise, the truck will be pulling a trailer every now and again... ive been looking at just doing a 2.5/3in leveling kit but i was told that if i do that leveling kit it will just mess up other components on my truck? can i fit a 33 on my truck now as it sits? and would i need after market rims to do so?

Quick question on this i have a 5.4 Duty and it has a super 40 flowmaster at the end of the manifold 3" and lets out (2) 2.25" pipes into 5" tips are you say a 3" pipe would be better? anyway i was just asking for some calification
Thank you have a Merry Christmas
I have a 2004 Reg cab 250 and no lift with 285/75R16 tires with no rubbing issues. When it comes time to replace weak front springs I think I will go with the X code springs with 350 rear blocks. Also maybe an adjustable track bar because of the height difference. Enjoy your truck and welcome to the website.

Merry Christmas as well. What I mean to say is that there really isn't any way to upgrade performance on a superduty from the cat-back exhaust systems. Yes a new Y pipe will help and maybe even a high flow cat but not exhaust systems. All aftermarket systems run 3inch back which is the same as the stock set up. Anything bigger than 3 inches will result in lost back pressure and loss of low end torque with only marginal horse power gains at high rpms. As with duals going any bigger than 2.25 will result in the same sort of problem. Going bigger just isnt going to help. Replace your y pipe and thats about all you can do. Do not go with any bigger pipes.
