Changing spark plugs

My 2000 F250 V10 has 91000 miles on it and im thinking the spark plugs will have to be replaced soon. My cousin had a 06 F150 with a 5.4 in it and said the factory plugs will break easilly when taking them out and may drop a small piecce inside the cylinder. Is this true? Has anybody had this experience? Ive never changed plugs on anything newer than a 79.

his truck uses the newer 3V mod motor..

your truck uses teh older 2V and as such uses a competly different plug design..

ur biggest concern will be reseating the new plugs with the correct torque setting..

getting that right is VITAL. just using a wrench tight "feel" wont work.. unless you dont mind the engine spitting a plug out down the road.

do a search for spark plug changeing. Do it right. Follow the instructions. Do not forget the di-electric grease and the torque wrench. Take your time. Ask Art the mod. Cold motor I think.

Here you go. Also after you clean the spark plug holes and before removing the plugs spray a little PB Blaster and let it sit for a few (or something similar) to soak into and help loosen them.

Thanks guys, ive book marked that link. Why cant be as simple as it used to be? I stopped and got an estimate for new exhaust today cuz the factory pipes are pretty rotten and was telling the guy that when i fixed my brakes a short while ago ai noticed 1 of the exhaust manifolds studs broke off. His response was "Im not fixing that" he told me that easy outs wont work. Is this true?

Biggest difference from how it "used to be"? The vehicles last so much longer! Most vehicles were on scrap heap or had to be rebuilt (or at least had a blown gasket or cracked manifold replaced) LONG before exhaust studs started rusting up and snapping off so you rarely heard about it.

As far as the getting it fixed, you need to thank that guy for warning you how incompetent he is and then take it elsewhere for repair. Easy Outs are about the dumbest way to fix these... Stud extractors, square extractors, or welding nuts on is how the knowledgable and skilled folks do it. Nothing special about removing these compared to any other broken fastener.

It's not, but not as difficult as most of the vehicles I've done it on. Compared to the rear manifold on a transverse V6 engine, this is a cake walk.... Most require head removal.

The whole V10 plug change scare is just that, a scare. Don't be an idiot, follow the directions and it will be fine. Don't freak out about it, it's only a plug change. There are a lot of people on here who will preach that it's completely too hard and too scary but I'd bet 99% of them have never even done their own plug change. Clean the engine compartment, clean the plug holes out before, and during plug removal, you can even use a shop vac, they work well, make sure you torque it down right. Torque...clean...torque...clean....torque...clean. have fun.
