EBV codes??

P0470 Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0471 Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Circuit Performance
P0472 Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input
P0478 Exhaust Pressure Control Valve High Input

any one have any idea as to why i might be getting these codes?
would my chip have anything to do with this? or starting the truck after sitting for 3 days in 10 degree weather?

Need more info- did it start, hard start, colored smoke, rough idle, did the idle rpm increase from 600-800 up to 900-1100 after a minute or so? Did it do it once or several times on start?

Since there was never a resolution to the original question, I have something related:

Today, had a rough starting 2001 F-350 7.3L
14 deg F overnight,
2 hours of block heater before starting with air temp of 17 deg F (I keep a piece of TekFoil over the engine)

Surging and white smoke. Even after a few minutes of rough idling there was hardly enough power to move up the driveway.

It started and ran fine yesterday when I moved it in the driveway (no running warm-up, just block heater and a minute or so of run time).

I left the block heater on it for another four hours and
Put my EASE Diagnostic laptop on it and the code was
Pre-Existing P0475 Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Malfunction

while using the lap top to read the ^code^, it started and ran fine. Took it for a long drive.

Does anyone know if there's something I can do now while this problem is intermittant?
Or, does it seem the hard start and Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Malfunction are un-related?
I always use Stanadyne Jr. so fuel should not be the problem

Thanks

The codes are history codes I cleared them and they went away and haven't seen the sence. The ses light wasn't on truck runs great no issues there. I have a feeling its the back pressure sensors not ment to work with 5" straight pipe exhaust.

Do you still have the EBPV installed and if so, does it work? With temps that cold, it should operate and stay closed for a while till the truck warms up. If the EBPS is bad, or the wiring for it is loose or messed up, the EBPV will be disabled. See if you can get a pressure reading on the the EBPS. If its steady at 48psi, the sensor is bad. Thats the default reading if the sensor goes out of its normal range.

The exhaust size won't matter to the sensor since its fed directly from the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold and your turbo is providing the majority of the back pressure in the system.

Ebpv is still installed and has work properly to my understanding. I will test the sensor when I get a chance thanks for the help

When you figure out what your problem is i'd love to know, I too have a po478 code as well as a po470, I believe my ebpv is functioning fine but will test the sensor and see if that fixes my problem. I've had these codes for a few weeks but truck runs like a champ.

well it didnt get cold enough for my ebv to turn on again, and i havnt seen the codes since. im thinking they were just warning me that i was fighting the motor to get the truck up to speed when it was below freezing.
