Replace that reman distributor, swap in a new distributor from a trust worthy brand (either OEM or aftermarket).
Make sure you replace any electrical parts w/ motorcraft brand youll be glad you did. Do a search on my name larrylass and look for the longest post there. its a book but there is a wealth of info in there if your willing to read it!! believe me your solution is in there. Autozone and AAP are just junk for replacement parts. Use napa or if its electrical like i said motorcraft. You can just replace the stator in the dizzy w/ the motorcraft brand instead of a new dizzy. Let us know how it turns out!!!
thanks guys for ALL the input. i think what im gonna try tomorrow is to fire the old girl up(im sure it will) and let her run till she poops out.(it should). then im gonna throw in the Motorcraft original Dizzy i think it even still has the tfi attached to it. If she fires up then i know the culprit.. sort of.. could be either the replacement dizzy or replacement tfi. Hmmm maybe i should just try the old tfi first so we all know. again thanks for the support guys.
Oh yeah forgot one thing along the lines of Motorcraft vs other..
I have a 7.3 diesel as one of my tanks. it needed new glow plugs i used cheaper Bosch glow plugs set of 8 were 24.00 on ebay. now i was told by posters in the diesel forum to use the motorcraft glow plugs but they were 85.00 for 8 so i put in the bosch and they lasted oh.. about 5 days then the truck wouldnt start, i got the ones preferred by the diesel guru's on this forum and that was a year ago and that truck doesnt even need the block heater at night and its been like 10 degrees or so. just thought i would throw that in there. maybe we should start a new thread about motorcraft vs others. probably be a sticky!! lol

That's an excellent IDEA, I have to repeat the word IDEA. I doubt if you can go into the Ford garage or any parts place and just buy or order a NEW distributor. I doubt if they are available. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure if you looked long enough, you could find a new distributor somewhere.
i suggest a new oe , motorcraft, stator and tfi , and make sure the dielectric grease is on the module before bolting it up! dizzy is a dizzy , due to age, oe were never reman and most of the aftermarket are cardone
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm curious if anyone has had any problem's using a MSD dizzy? Nothing fancy, just a standard one to replace the Motorcraft one.
I'm curious since I'm gonna probably pull my dizzy on my 5.0 when it gets warmer and swap in a new one. I have already installed the MSD Blater coil and the MSD cap and rotor kit.
Sorry guys it took me so long to get back with you all on this problem! I finally had a chance today to put my hands to work on this engine, sounds funny seeing how i open the van every morning to get tools out and such. well as normal she fired right up and ran perfectly....for about 4 minutes give or take, then just as before she died like you turned the key off. i popped the hood and unhooked the coil wire stuck a phillips screwdriver in the wire end and pappy cranked her over was throwing heavy orange spark. i hooked it back up and she fired right up.. hmmm then it died again that quickly. checked the spark again none. I call advance auto to get a coil they got one for 19 and change. I swapped out the old coil and with confidence cranked the motor over.. Nadda.. narry... nothin. @!$% still no spark. I was ready with the original motorcraft dizzy and tfi. swapped out dizzys and she fired right up and ran for like 15 minutes or so till i finally was satisfied we got her and shut it down. Yeah i know someones gonna kick my @ss for not trying the dizzy before snagging a new coil. but i thought fer sher i had it nailed with the coil. so it was the darn reman dizzy. I want to thank all who shared ideas and once again you all came through and my big ole box van is back on the road! Thanks all!!
