I was driving to work on morning, just like every other morning. Slowed down to turn right where I always turn right. Halfway through the turn -- BAM -- the truck lurched forward, then came to an abrupt stop.
I shook my head, then jumped out of the Bronco and walked to the rear. There was a Toyota under my bumper. The bumper (a stock step bumper) was tough enough that it pushed my truck up and the sheet metal of the Toyota down, causing it to miss my gas tank.
The driver of the Toyota still had her cell phone to her ear and was describing what just happened to whoever she was talking to. She never hit the brakes. As she said later, she didn't know what she was thinking about. I will not get into cell phones and driving ...
The wrecker driver had to jack my Bronco up by the rear axle housing so the Toyota could be "extracted." My Bronco suffered a slightly bent step bumper, which is still in use. The Toyota was totalled, with the front-end a crumpled mess. The cop who investigated the accident was amazed.
My original Bronco was a rattle can black 79 with a 351M, I hit a minivan on a merge in Harrisburg PA, travelling at about 10mph, and it drove the back hatch completely in, I couldn't even find a ding.
I hit a phone pole in an ice storm, and it put a 2 inch dent in my front bumper, and I also was rear ended by another Bronco at a red light, which scratched the finish on the rear bumper.
My current Bronco (#4), is an 87 with a 302, I bought it 4 months ago when I blew my other Bronco up, (see trashed 351 thread), and so far I was rear ended by a wanna be street racer in a Honda, which tore the all the front end up on his car and drove his crossmember into the radiator, causing me no damage, and my wife had a lady coming out of a parking lot drive right under the passenger side right in front of the rear tire, which bent the fender a little and blew the tire.
There's a 5 star safety rating for you.
Ok guys [and Gals] forgive me because this does not involve a Bronco but it is funny. I am sitting at a light and I here this loud thud......I start looking around and at the same time can smell the unmistakable aroma of coolant. Well next to me was a Windstar with mom and the kids, behind the wind star is a brand new Saab [still had sticker in window] with a foot shorter front end and coolant literally pooring on the ground. Here is the funny part, no visible damage to the windstar and the Saab drivers cell phone craked the rear glass after being launched by the airbag and yes the Saab driver was a she.........Ford baby yah!!
yes, bronco's rock here's my story----> i was pullin a left on a 5 lane road one being a turn lane. well a chevy lumina hit me comin at about 25 mph. well needless to say i rode up on top of him and then rolled back down. all i have is a dent in my bubmper and he needed a hood, fender, headlight, and bubmper...oh yeh i forgot to mention it was my fault. anywho now i have an excuse to make me a super duty front end replacement bubmer and brush gaurd!!!!!
Well today, I almost got hit by some jerk driving an Acura SUV talking on his cell phone. I would have let him hit me if it wouldn't have hit me in the drivers side - would have been his fault.
Coming home from school, I saw an accident. It involved a '97-2003 F-150 and I think a Honda. Well, as I passed by, both drivers were standing by the Honda which had it's whole front end crunched in the middle where it was pointing towards the sky and the windshield was shattered... the F-150's bumper was a little bent
oh, duh! I thought he meant he was sittin in the left hand turn lane and got rearended... i thought "rolled up on him" was like the lumina went under his rear end... whoops my bad!
Here is a lil story for ya...
same scenario... 5 lane road, the center being a left hand turn lane. I am cruisin at a good clip in the left hand lane, the one that should have the smoothest traffic right? I look up in front of me and there in my lane is a stopped Explorer! At the time I was drivin a 1994 Olds EightyEight. I smacked that Explorer so hard she rolled forward and smacked the car in front of her... My car was trashed... hood bent 90 degrees... bumper pretty much lying on the road... it was bad.... But the Explorer, bumper was a lil bent. The cool thing was... it wasnt my fault even though I was the one that tagged the lady from the rear! Three cars ahead of me some lady was turning left and decided not to use the turn lane. She got the ticket, and my buddy who just happened to be the cop that was on call... gave me a ride to school!
This wasn't with my Bronco, but one day in my 89 F150 I stopped for a school bus. A guy behind me in a 2wd S-10 spilled his coffee on his lap and rammed me about 25 mph. It knocked the dirt off my trailer hitch and the bottom of my bumper but his poor little truck was really smashed. It caved the hood, grill, front bumper and everything in through the radiator.
Ive got two good ones.
One day I was driving through an intersection in which a pretty spectacular wreck was occuring. 5 lane, Bronco was in the left lane doing a good 55mph, unfortunate female in Ford Taurus decides she is done waiting for traffic to clear, so without a green arrow, goes aheads and turns. What happens next is incredible. The bronco's left tires ride straight over the Taurus' drivers side bumper, hood, windshield, and roof. The bronco is launched into a half barrel-roll, landing square on its roof. Sliding into a Jeep Wagoneer in the yield lane. Truth be told, the Bronco suffered pretty extensive roof damage, and some suspension damage, of course. The most spectacular part is where the girl, on her phone, gets out to cuss him out, while the guy in the now TOTALED wagoneer gets out to help the poor Bronco driver. The Bronc driver gets out flips her off, and sits down on the curb. For the life of me I can't figure out why he is alive. I wantched the beast hit the Wagoneer. Truly BUILT DAMN FORD TOUGH!

The other is a good friend of mine in his '87 XLT is driving on the same road, and a girl decides to run a stop sign onto the four-lane. He slams the breaks, so we think he was at about 35-40 when he hit her '95 Civic. Well, hw has to bend his bumper back out and , gasp, replace his radiator, for the third time that year. (all from wrecks, only one his fault). The picture I am looking at shows the Civic's frontend bent at the windshield. Its great, it looks like she slid the front into a tree. He was ******, she was...on her phone. Anyway, thought those should entertain.

I have a 90 XLT and can't complain. About 6 moths ago I was sitting at a light on at the end of a freeway off ramp when i heard this really loud crunch and felt a little jolt. I looked back to see what the hell happened and all i see is this little Toyota T100 mini-truck planted into my back end. When i got out the fat lady driving could not even get out due to the fact that with the hood, both fenders, and drivers side door either demolished or bent, the door would not open. After an hour of the lady asking me when the cops would be there to pull her out, the wercker shows up. (AZ DPS blows). When the police finnally show up and manually bend her door open, the wecker gets to pull the trucks apart. When it is all said and done my truck needed a dent puller to pull the quarter sized dent in the tailgate where my tire rack sits and she needed a whole new truck!
Thats right built Ford tough
BBBB
Having ridden my Bronco thru a full roll, I can attest to their sturdiness. I was going 45mph, and after reattaching the trailer (without the car and one of the trailer's tires), my father drove it to my house where I dismantled & rebuilt it (after my collarbone healed). If I had known the hospital was only going to sell me a $700 sling , I wouldn't have even gotten into the ambulance.
That was only one of many wrecks my truck has been through - less than 1/2 of which were my fault, and all but one of THOSE occurred at least 10 years ago. I've smacked at least 3 cars, been sideswiped or hit by at least 6, rearended one truck, rolled @45mph (my fastest wreck), hit a few trees, backed into a telephone pole, and driven off a cliff (long story ). It has never been in better shape than it is today.
WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! Back the holly trolly up a second...
Steve... I HAVE to hear about this cliff incident. I dont care how long a story it is... you can post it, Private Message it, Email it... put it on Audio CD for all I care... but I want to hear it... so start typin buddy!
