Question for Ford AIC users

If there are any out there...

I have mine set for automatic charge protection. I also have a toggle switch wired in so that I don't have to set the e-brake. In the AM I will fire it up, let it idle for about a minute, set the AIC to 1300 rpm, throw the toggle, then push the button to activate the AIC. 97 times out of 100 it will go to 1300rpm idle but once in a while it will start to idle at 1300rpm, then jump up to around 1800rpm. If I deactivate it and re-set it it always goes to and stays at 1300rpm. Theoretically with the AIC set to "RPM control" mode the automatic charge protect should be disabled, but it appears that sometimes it is kicking on anyway. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't have mine wired the way yours is, my truck still has the connection to the emergency brake to activate it. I assume our AIC's are identical to one another, so I know that there are different preset idle speeds programmed into them, and somehow yours isn't understanding that you want it on charge protect, but are wanting it at the 1800rpm setting.

I never use charge protect unless I am boosting someone charge protect increases the rpm when there is an electrical draw I usually just set my PB then hit rpm button then the ford button I have mine pre set for 1350.

The only difference is I throw a switch to turn on the "BRAKE" light on the dash instead of pushing the e-brake... it does not affect the functionality of the unit.

I need to clarify a few things it seems. The AIC unit has an "automatic charge protect mode" that you can program. Read up on it on page 4 and 5 of the manual here. I have that feature turned on on my AIC. So when I throw my toggle, the unit will up the idle speed without doing anything else on the AIC.
When you push the RPM control button, it should over-ride the automatic charge protect mode but it doesn't always work correctly in my truck. If I push the RPM control button, then select the 1300rpm idle speed and flip my toggle switch (same as setting the e-brake) then push the Ford button the unit will sometimes raise idle speed to 1300rpm briefly but then it jumps to 1850rpm or so and will stay there until I deactivate the unit by pushing the Ford button. It always operates correctly on the second try.
What I'm trying to figure out is why the automatic charge protect mode seems to be over-riding the RPM control mode.
