home made AIC problem

I made a home made aic with a 10 turn 2k pot, when i turn the switch on the aic the pot is in the lowest setting. all the way to counterclockwise, the engin raises to 19 hundred rpm, if i turn the pot to right 3/4 turn it goes to 24 hundred rpm, this is a 10 turn pot, what should i put in line to drop rpm and get more turns? some kind of dioid / resistor / ???? I am not a electriction so I have no idea, it works good, just wish I could lower the rpm so i can get at least 2 to 3 turns or more on the pot without going to 3500 rpm with 3 turns??? If i turn pot to right rpm goes up to left rpm goes down just not low enough.
