Thoughts From Ford - Cetane Requirements
* Power Stroke engines require a MINIUM cetane of 40, but most states don't require retailers to display cetane rating on pumps. (Are there ANY states that do? I've been to a few (states), but haven't seen any pumps with the numbers.)
*As cetane ratings decreases, expect these symptoms:
- Black smoke (WOT probably doesn't qualify)
- Rough engine performance
- Lack of power
- Diminished fuel economy (See above under Black Smoke)
* If experiencing low cetane symptoms,
- Change fuel source
- Add Power Stroke Diesel Cetane Booster
(Or ease up on the pedal)
The last point (Add Power Stroke Diesel Cetane Booster) was a shameless plug from Ford, but then it's their training manual, so I guess they are allowed.
To continue with Ford's plug...
DIESEL CETANE BOOSTER
* Improves cetane rating in poor to marginal fuel
- 38.3 cetane fuel improves to47.2
- 43.7 cetane fuel improves to 48.1
* Improves fuel economy and power
* Aids in fuel lubricity insuring proper fuel system operation (injectors)
* Minimizes gummy deposits remaining in fuel system (injector tips)
* Improves EGR longevity
* 20 oz. bottle treats 125 gallons of fuel
* Motorcraft part number: PM-22-A
* Can be used year-around
Stayed tuned for "Low Temperature Operation"
