Hey Folks,
I know this would be easier to diagnose with some codes, but I don't have a scanner and I thought I'd pick yall's brains for ideas before I went about trying to procure one. Anyway, the truck's been having an intermittant rough running issue. It happens from idle to running RPM, in gear or Park, and when it happens, the CEL is on. It first happened for only ann instant on a long trip, but today it happened the whole way for a short 3 mile trip. It sounds sough, and has a slight shudder, especially when under some load, like acceleration.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jack
I know that one of them is fixed... before I found this site, I had that happen and brought it to Ford . When that happened, it ran really rough, like a violet shaking. This is much more minor, but still noticeable. Could it be IPR or ICP? I get the two confused, but I'm just running down the checklist.

I think they only did one side for the UVCH. Is it possible for the rough running to be fairly minor with loose UVCH, like maybe it's not totally off like it probably was the first time, but the connection's just loose enough for a voltage drop to screw things up a little?
The first time it happened, it was at least 40* out, so I don't think it's gelling. Good thought though, didn't even occur to me.
Yep... it is possible to have 1 or 2 injector feed wires in the connector not making contact.. If you have had one side go loose, there is a real good chance the other side is loose.. My drivers side was worse the the passenger side.. I did the 50 cent fix a couple of years ago and it has been running great ever since.. It would be nice to read your fault codes.. a P1316 in a good indication of a loose connector.. see my gallery pic of a loose connector..
Here is a good link to show ya how to fix it.. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ck-shakes.html
Thanks Clint, that makes sense. I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a scan tool, but if not, that'll be the first thing I attack. Might as well torque down the injector holddowns and rockers while I'm there anyway.
Thank you
Definitely need a way to pull those codes or you could be chasing symptoms around for days. Maybee there is an FTE member with a scanner or AE in you area than will chime in to help out.
Hey all,
I checked my receipt from Ford when they did one UVCH. It said right side, so I attacked the left side. The connector was loose, not terribly, but I was able to push it in at least 1/8". So, I did a $.25 mod. Now I'm just gonna torque down the holddowns and rockers and see how it is.
And reps for that picture Robin. Clears it up nicely.
Thanks folks
Well, turns out I spoke too soon. When I took it for a drive, it was fine for a mile or so, then started acting up again. It is completely random, intermittent. I took it to autozone while the light was on and it was running rough/chugging to try to get codes. their scanner couldn't read any.
I'm still sort of convinced it could be UVCH-- the other side. The service reciept from Ford says they "replaced" the harness on the Right side. I $.25 mod'ed the left side (driver's side) today. Maybe the other side has worked loose over the ~2 years since it was done?
I think I'll crack the passenger's side open tomorrow.
On a side note, holddowns and rockers all had good torque.
If there are any other ideas anybody has, send them this way!
Thanks folks!
