Is this normal?
2011 1 month old and my rear differential and rear axel are rusted. doesnt seem like it should already be rusting. the back side looks ok its just the front side and the drive shaft.

no on the salt.. looks like surface rust, front side of diff, drive shaft and halfway up each side of the axel.
probably not a warranty issue? but i am going to check

They never paint that stuff in the factory, even here in so. calif they rust,the first thing I did when I got my 2002 was to get under it, and spray everything I could with black rustoleum paint,I can't stand rust on a new truck. I also paint the brake drums and calibers with silver high temp paint. Makes working on things easier later on.

If you want it to look original (as opposed to painting) just spray with Gibbs penitrating oil. It is wonderful stuff, penitrates at the molecular level keeping water and rust out. Reapply as needed, a couple of times a year ought to do it.
