Lots of those problems are caused by PO-added trailer hitch wiring with crappy or wrong
connections and/or bad grounds, you might crawl under the back and look around.
I didn't know that a trailer hook up could cause that, there is a linkage for a trailer and its all messed up looking and falling apart. i was trying to replace the license plate lamp but wasnt able to make the connector reach because of the trailer set up
I had a similar problem with the entire tail light set up on the 85 F150 I bought this summer, went back to just behind where the moron hooked into the factory harness, cut out the extra crap, repaired the harness and made sure I had a couple good grounds and all has been working fine, some folks just should not be allowed to touch a vehicle with ANY form of tools!
I've noticed that the guy I bought my '80 F100 from was not mechanically inclined at all!! Like I said, the trailer harness is falling apart, the mechanical linkage for the clutch arm is chain linkage connectors duct taped together, I found a garden hose on the smog setup and I just removed the whole smog crap. My speedo wasn't even connector to the instrument cluster, my ashtray was under the dash panel, half of my light connectors have rock hard putty in them, some won't even hold the bulb or even let me get the bulb in, the battery ground cable was house cable. Needless to say I've fixed a lot and found more and theres still suprises to be found.
My lights are still acting up, I was moving my truck out of the garage so my Uncle could use it for the night and guess what, no taillights, running lights and the headlights kept flickering. I have a new battery, headlight switch, battery ground, new bulbs all around, and no reverse still. Any more ideas as to whats wrong?? I'm going to check all fuses tomorrow, make sure the headlight switch is connected tightly, make sure the battery cables are good and then troubleshoot from there. If you have any ideas for me please post them!!!!
Start running down ALL the lite wiring and look for a wire thats been pinched and rubbing against the metal, maybe a ground short, ad that problem on an old Chev I had a bunch of years ago, took 2 weekends to find it.
