7.3 no start

I am trying to get a 7.3 started
hooked up AE
injection pressure is 2200-2300 psi cranking
glow plugs check ok
gpr working, truck is in a heated shop, new cps installed, air intake heater relay replaced
new injectors 4000kms as well as glow plugs
this truck has had thousands of $ thrown at it to get it running.
It spins over at about 220 rpm when cranking.
sounds like it would like to start (chugging ) fuel pump is working
need some help folks!!! this thing is kicking my a$$

Smoke! Smoke!!!!

If you see smoke out the tailpipe while cranking, that means it's firing fuel. If no smoke, then no fuel.

That's the key. We need to know if it's fueling or not while cranking.

yes smoke is coming out the tailpipe.
Gave it a shot of ether today and it fired off of that.
black smoke out the pipe. checked and double checked all fuses
Had a charger on it but not long enough the help ran the batts down quickly
Owner states that if it is plugged in it will start.
What is the ohms for a good glow plug? and bad?
What rpm does it need to fire while cranking?

Buy the way? How many amps does the glow plugs draw? my amp meter showed them pulling about 6-8 amps
I would think they should be 30-40 amps at least?
Upon further investigetion they should draw 190 amps

What color smoke out the tailpipe while cranking? Gray smoke while cranking and starting after being plugged in could mean worn injectors. Pull the valve covers and watch the oil discharge from each injector while cranking. If you've got injectors not spitting oil, they are not firing. White smoke while cranking is likely glow plug or relay related.

Less than 2 ohms is a good glow plug. I think it's 150 on the rpm's to start.

hmm black smoke..that seems wierd to me...wouldnt that mean that the fuel is being burnt, and theres just too much fuel? similar to how an aggressive tune will make us 'roll coal'? Which CPS did you use when you replaced it?

7.3L Powerstroke Starting Requirements:

<DIR>Battery voltage a minimum of 10.5 volts while cranking
RPM at least 100 while cranking. If no tach movement suspect CPS
If you have a scan tool ICP should be 500 PSI ± 25 PSI and fuel pulse width should be 1 to 6 milliseconds

</DIR>The above requirements assume the following

<DIR>Correct oil level, oil type and pressure
Correct type of fuel
Correct fuel pressure (53 PSI per Ford spec)
Sufficient air supply (clean air filter & unobstructed intake)
Proper oil level in HPOP reservoir (1 to ¾ inch from top)
Proper glow plug relay and glow plug operation (in cold weather)
Proper injection timing (PCM controlled)

</DIR>Those are the requirements but if the ICP climbs above 550-600 then it will probably climb much higher, and in your case 2200 PSI, then it is most likely going to be an electrical issue. If you are not getting white smoke during a no start crank then the injectors are not firing. Either you do not have the required voltge while cranking or the IDM fuse or IDM power relay is bad.
