The (1968-1986) Explorers was a limited edition trim and options package group.
It had special trim, pinstripes, special color options, and features that were unique only to Explorer models.
They were only made a few months out of the year, and they did not feature in the main sales brochure as a concequence. They had their own brochure when they were made avaliable.
Also as limited editions they were changed each year. No two years of the Explorer were exactly the same. A 1975 Explorer is different than a 1976 Explorer. Different striping special colors and hood ornament are the biggest changes between them.
They are a lot rarer than the Regular models from brand new. And a lot more rare even now with their special stripes intact. But rare does not mean worth more money, unfortunately.
This totally useless information for you, but the 1976 Bronco was the only year for the Explorer stripes offered on them. Here's a pic of my old Bronco with original paint and striping. You can see the similar pattern.
