Hi Joel,
Got the Haynes manual open here, and it says code 22 key on engine off= manifold absolute barometric pressure sensor out of range. If you have the manual it has drawings of locations for sensors on different engines, also flow charts for proper testing of circuits etc.
Most parts stores will test the sensors, and double check that you pulled the right code. Auto zone is one I can think of that does it.
pulling that 22 code AND another one! im pulling a 32 woohoo! aren't i special!
22 is a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) or BARO sensor out of range
32 is a EGR pressure feedback fault (1985-89 models)
I went to O'reiley and asked them about my #22 code. they had no idea what a BARO sensor was so I sure could use some help here!
88f-150 302 moter 3 speed 2 wheel drive.
um getting 8 mpg city and 12 highway. my temp gauge kinda stays low but it could just be my gauge. and hmmm what else? yea thats pretty much it. oh and my check engine light flashes ESPECIALLY when its cold and when accelerating. other than that my truck if fine, but the FUEL MILEAGE is the biggie. so PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE help this poor 18 yr. old making $5.25 at long john silvers lol. I can't afford $1.60 on gas i need this baby fixed up!
Go to autozone, and have them test your MAP sensor. I thought mine was going out on my '89 F-150 302 as well. They tested it and I saved about $50.
But before you do that, reset your computer and drive it about another week. It's quite possible you have some old codes that have developed. My '93 get's several of those out-of-range codes during the winter because I mainly drive stop-go short trips.
The Haynes manual show how to test each sensor yourself with a multimeter, AND how to clear the codes without unhooking the battery.
It is the MAP sensor, and it's mounted against the firewall high above the R exhaust manifold on top of the A/C box. But don't replace it just because it's mentioned in a code definition - diagnose the circuit and see why it's out of range.
ok
well i have this mechanic friend in my church. he'd been a mechanic for years now and i think he's doing somethign else. he's gonna talk to his son this week and we'll talk wednesday at church to see what my next step should be. so i guess till then i'll hang tight and get 8 mpg lol

Oh, wait a minute - you meant for working on trucks...
Yeah, I use a MityVac - ~$30 when Wal-Mart stocks them, but Harbor Freight carries them all the time for about that price. Just make sure NOT to get the brake-bleeding ONLY kit - it doesn't have a gauge on the pump. If you don't mind spending a little more, they make a shiny all-metal one for ~$50.

If your temp guage is showing a low reading, It might be worth the eight bucks for a new thermostat. If your engine is running too cool, It can cause probs with the emission sensors. Makes it hard to pass the emission tests too, if you have them in your state. Nice cheap place to start.
If I read your post correct sounds like a 22 and a 122 which is your throttle position sensor. This can make you truck run like crap. If you have high mileage and have never replaced it, it is worth th $50. I was pulling all kinds of codes. When my engine light stayed on and a fault code of 998 came I knew it was time to wrench cold or not. So I replaced the TPS.
I have gained mileage, better startups and better cruising!
Clear your codes andgo for a ride and double check what codes you are getting. Lots o Luck my friend!
i thought that beep in the middle was a code separation indicator or something. hmmmm. anywayz thanks for the replies. im still gonna hang til wednesday and talk to my mechanic friend. i'll probably bring my truck over to church and have him pull 'em with me
