I have a 2003 E450 with the 7.3 and the oil pan is starting to rust through. I have the factory Ford manual, but cant find instructions on oil pan removal. All I can see is a listing for the 7.3 in an E550. That is showing me the E550 has a solid axle, and my E450 has TTB so I am stuck. Any thoughts?
Not sure if the vans are the same, but the trucks have to have the engine all but removed to get the pan out. The cross member will not allow the pad to come down enough with the motor in.
I have the same problem. Rust big time. To get by for now, clean it down and put some epoxy on it. It might get you through until spring. Go to a place that sells auto paint and supplies. They have an epoxy that comes in two tubes hooked together. Don't buy the gun for it. They come in different working times. Get something with a short working time so it dries fast. Just cut the ends off and mix them together. Smear it on the bad spots and put a piece of clean metal over it. This stuff works better than welding. If you have a leak, then dump the oil and let it dry first. In the spring you can jack the engine up and replace it.
I can only tell you I did it on my van. I had to loosen everything up and jack the engine up. I did not have to pull it all the way out. I never tried it on a 7.3. But this will bump you up and maybe someone else will see it and have a better answer.
There is an old thread somewhere about this fix. As I recall, several folks have tried and it seemed to work. My truck has never left Fla, so I count myself lucky.
