I think you said the truck had 48K-If I bought it I would change them out now and use some anti seize as stated above. I think it is a issue when you have steel and alluminum meeting each other. It is just my opinion.

Looks like the TSB for spark plug issue is for any 6.8 before 10/9/07. Does anyone know how to tell the build date of this truck based off the VIN#?

Here is the VIN# 1FTSW21Y38EE50778

Car Fax would be nice to please

What I am trying to get at is all the heads are aluminum. The earlier years as stated above there was not enough threads and the plugs would sometimes work loose and blow out of the hole-not good. When they went to 3 valves they put more threads in the head and the blow outs stopped- it did not cure the steel to aluminum problem(fusing). I can't help you with the build date or the vin. If you search this forum about the plugs you can read all about it. It is the one problem with this motor-it is minor in my opinion to change out the plugs every 50K-some say if you use anti seize you can let them go a 100K. Plugs & boots don't cost much. If this truck is at a Ford dealership make it part of the deal to change them.
good luck

On the left valve cover IIRC is a white sticker that has the location and month day and year of build of the engine.

Man I am so close to pulling the trigger on one of these things.

Here is the truck I am looking at. Right now they want $3,000 and my truck. Do you think it is worth it?

I am just nervous because it has been so long since I have owned a F-250, and this truck has had some pretty big tire put on it plus it has 51K miles on it.

The dealer told me that just put $1,109.04 into it with the following.
new front and rear breaks
alignment
driver side heated seat
fluids changes and flush

What do you all think???

Umm, well.... most of us LOVE our trucks and have no regrets - no matter what we paid.

On the spark plugs, I think you have heard the story. Thread seizures are a risk ANY time there is a steel object threaded into an aluminum object. Or any other two dissimilar materials.
Not unique to these trucks, ANY vehicle with aluminum heads (99.9%+ of current vehicles).
Yes, the plugs will last 100k. But the longer they have to fuse, the more they will fuse. If you keep vehicles for only 100K, don't worry about it. If you keep them for longer than that, replacing at 50K can prevent some tension or heartbreak...
