Hey Gang, I'm considering the solid side windows(wingless)in the '56 cab I'm building. I know a lot of people have gone to them. Does anyone other than Mid-Fiftys offer these? Can you use the original window regulators with cranks on the bigger glass? I prefer the reliability of cranking the windows manually, personal preferrence, but it seems like the lift point woulld be off centered if the original lift arms(regulators)were used in their unshortened form. I don't want to have to re-engineering the whole set-up I'm just wondering what are the options. Ideas, please! Thanks, Jay
i installed the straight glass weld in kit from Mid Fifties, i wasen`t impressed with the fitment of the weld in pieces,I ended up modifying them, installation instructions were horrible!!!!
I used the curved,I think as I don't remember changing the doors except cutting some support under the vent window, and the top door hing had to be trimed.
The glass can be bought from various vendors or even cut by a local glass shop if you have the template. As for the rest of the kit it is mainly just a new channel section and the felt for the channel and the door edge felts. I bought the glass locally (cheaper and no shipping costs) and used the Midfifty kit without glass.
Thanks Chuck, Where could I find a good source for the template or can you give me the name of a vendor? Is your glass tempered or laminated? I appreciate your help!
I bought the generic kit from Hagan. I made window templates from 3/16 tempered hardboard (straight glass, cut and welded the openings)... they work but man that was a lot of work. In retrospect a specific kit might have been worth it for the time saved....
