Besides uppipes what is the difference between the early and late 99 turbos. I know about the intake wheel but is that all. I want to up date my system but dose the complete turbo have to be changed. Thanks Chet

Yes, turbos are completely different. The compressor out-pipe is a different size. The height of the turbo mounts are different.

They are not interchangeable.

Yep, most everything on the intake side has to be changed, been there and done that.

What are your plans for the truck? The update isn't a very cheap option.

Riffraff Diesel: Early/Late Conversion Kit

That'll give you an idea of the costs (which is probably the cheapest way to go), that's not including a new turbo. I'd take the money and spend it on a good exhaust, intake, gauges and chip and be money/hp ahead.

I agree with farmb0y, I tow regularly with my e99, and the bosses 01.
both have 6637, 4" exhaust, and Dp tuners. I honestly cant feel any difference between the two when it comes to power.
It may show up on a dyno, but not SOTP.
Just my .02

Upgrading the pedistal, up-pipes and spider will allow you more options for turbo upgrade. As far as upgrading to the later intake plenums it is really not worth the effort and Riffraff now has reinforcement inserts for the early 2 1/2" plenums.

Another way to go is a Beans E99 D66 Dominator Turbo. It is a direct drop-in for E99s.

My build date 9/98 cc 4x4 lb dually pds and the dealer put on the late air intake when it was new. Question, I haven't seen the difference between the very early and mine but dose the early all have reducers coming from the spider to the intake at the block. Because it would seem to me if they had to reduce it there I mit just have the late model spider. Also with the late model spider would come the late model turbo? Thanks guys this is important to me I'm going to order some things from Clay and it mit save some head aches. God Bless Chet

9/98 should be early99
only difference between e99 and 99.25 is the front leaf springs and brakes

chet does your truck have a aih???
also the reduced boots will be the ones that go from the plenum to the spider

If you have an e99, your boots from the spider to the intake plenums should look like the one on the left. The later model is the one on the right. These pics are from when I upgraded mine, showing the difference between the two.

Just got one of the early spider. Notice how the "tube" going to the right into the IC pipe is reduced, on the later models it's all 3". As well as the intake boot going into the turbo, it's 4" (I think) all the way, were the early's are reduced.

The stock E99 and late99 intake on the turbo is 3". The ATS housing and the 38R are 4".
