Found: E99 Van Turbo
Was searching through the classifieds and found an early 99 van turbo up for sale. Figured I'd post up here to let the e99 guys know since those things are as rare as hens teeth.

And because I know the question will be coming:
The difference between stock and a van turbo is a van turbo uses a 1.15 exhaust housing and has no waste gate. It is a little laggier on the bottom but pulls forever on the top end.

Stock tune will be nearly worthless on stock injectors, so be ready for that. Since the exh housing is so much larger, it takes more fuel to get it spooled, which is the lag folks talk about. With tuning and/or larger stix, it's really not an issue. Mine is still doing well producing 35ish psi with about a 1:1 exhaust back pressure to boost pressure ratio, which is what you want. I think it's a good mod...
EDIT: $350 is about right. I spent about that on mine after rebuilding it...

Don't forget to take elevation in to account. I was thinking of going with a van turbo, but if people at sea level are talking about lag, then throw an extra 5 - 8,000 feet in there and you may be hating it with the way the air thins out. If you tow much and/or heavy, you might want to go with a D66 or keep an eye out for a complete 99.5+ setup.

Jim said that this turbo is basically an unmodified D66. What is the difference between this and the D66? I would like to do the early/late conversion but that plus a turbo is some serious $$$.
What do you mean by "isn't that bad". How is the lag? comparing stock tune with E99 turbo and E99 Van turbo, which is better? Would you do a flat $350 ?

Ok good. Ya, I was reading a thread that you posted where you were talking about the van turbo and said that. It made me feel better. My throttle response is excellent with the superchips so I dont think I will be upset with the trade off for a little low end to get a lot of high end. Thanks glenn
