'94, EEC self test codes...help
codes-
111- so thats good
then 1-1-8-1-6-2-8-1-8-1-6-2-8
How do I know if its 3 2-digit codes or 2 3-digit codes?
The 2 digits point to IDM
the 3 digits are rt side lean at part throttle and converter issue.
I am thinking either pump or computer is next...issues all point to TPS but that was not the fix I hoped for.
If its giving you code 111 then ALL of the Codes are three-digit. The ECM does one or the other, not both. There is a 2 second break between codes and they are flashed out twice in a row.
Keep in mind you have the ID code that flashes out BEFORE the fault and continuous memory codes. The ID Code indicates the engine size. One flash per pair of cylinders. So, a V8 would be four flashes... a 6 cylinder - three and a 4 cylinder - two flashes.
If you look at it that way, your initial ID Code of 4 flashes leaves you with the same two Codes flashed out as they should be... Code 181 and Code 628.
(For the record, two-digit Codes won't work here anyway as Code 28 does not apply to any of the equipment actually used in your truck. It references the VAF and certain dual spark plug versions of the EEC-IV system).
Code 181 - System at adaptive limits during partial throttle bank one lean. There is a very tedious test to make certain whether or not the O2 sensor has failed or not however, since this is the only Code of any consequence related to engine performance the most likely culprit is a failed O2 sensor.
Code 628 - E4OD fault Code related to transmission operations. Unless you are experiencing shifting issues or suspect the transmission is overheating, disregard this Code unless it comes up again after you have cleared codes and driven the truck for about an hour.
