The hoods are the same across the model range, F-1 to F-8. The F-7 and F-8 fenders are much wider. All 48 - 52 hoods will fit, if that's your only concern. The '51 and '52 are the same except that the '51 has three holes across the nose while the '52 has two. The center hole area on the '52 is blanked off. Somebody will be posting pics of each for you soon. Stu

Actually, Stu, the hole sizes in the nose are different between the 51 and 52 model years. I just happen to have two hoods in my parts stash and had a measure tape nearby.

Here's a shot of the front of a 51 hood.

The hole opening measures approximately 1 5/8" high.

Here's the front of a 52 hood.

The hole opening measures approximately 2 3/8" high.

So, there's a difference of about 3/4". This would explain why I see an approximate 1/4-3/8" metal flange through the holes in the front of the hood on my 52 Panel. The PO told me that he used a hood from a 51 on my 52. I always thought that the hoods between 51 and 52 trucks were basically the same, except for the trim, but now I'm confirming that the front openings are different sizes.

Thanks for the hood info. Now ican look for another hood. I will post picture when i figure out how to use the camera. The previous owner had installed an alternator. I trying to figure out if it is 12 volt and what is ground, positive or negative. What was the original?

There are some 6v/(+) ground alternators available, but they are rare. It's a safe assumption that it's 12v/(-) ground, but a quick look at the wiring will confirm. Worth checking over the entire wiring system before you get too far.
