Tonight at the gas station I seen a guy putting gas in an 6.0s tank. He said he was mixing 1gal of gas to 20 gals fuel. He said he does it when it runs rough and it smooths it out. What? I've heard of people up north mixing a little gas to help with gelling, and that's below 0* also. Am I the only one that thinks this guy is off his rocker?
I have bought quite a few used vehicles - only been burned on one (a 2005 F150). These are the stories that make you "pucker" when trying to make a wise used-vehicle purchase!
Was it an older guy? I worked at a truck stop when I was a teenager and can remember that some of the older truck drivers used to keep a 5 gallon can of gas strapped behind the cab and they would dump it in the tanks before filling up during the winter.
I always thought it was just one of those practices that had worked for vehicles in generations past so some older gentlemen continue to follow them.
Just another example of someone getting harmed because of "old wive's tales".
My contribution to FTE fans today is some words of wisdom which go's like this, "I Heared" & "They Said" are two very famous liers.
No actually he was in his 30s. I sorta figured that he had heard that a little gas in the fuel would fix cold temp running problems. I asked him if it was starting issues, but he insisted it was running problems. Something about thinning out the fuel or something. Is there any benefit from mixing gas in diesel? Looks to me that's there is a lot better "safer" chemicals to add to diesel if you just felt you had to add something to your fuel.
I thought ultra fuel was actually the best fuel for the 6.0. I think I missed a great opportunity to enjoy some sacrasim.
Adding gas to a diesel can cause a runaway condition, cause you to replace the fuel filters, have to drop and clean out the fuel lines as well as the tank. Newer diesels will shut down if there is a high enough gas content I believe. Then again I've never added gas to my diesel truck. The cost prohibits the curosity. As far as additives 2 stroke oil is a good fuel additive. Other than that you will be looking at a oil additive like rev-x.
I run zero additives in my vehicles and tractors. Right now where I am at we have 1.5" of snow on the ground. Supposed to be 10*s(one thing i hate about the iPad is that i cant do the shortcut for the degree symbol, no alt key) tonight and I am willing to bet y'all it will start up no problem.
The article says, "Gasoline mixed in diesel fuel will inhibit combustion in a diesel engine and diesel fuel mixed in gasoline will ignite too soon in a gasoline engine." which is false. There is a fair amount of bad info in that page, they mean well but don't know the physics of diesel/gas engines. However, that is not to say that the effect of adding gasoline to your diesel is anything other than bad, just saying the info on that page is bad.
"added some gasoline to diesel to supposedly clean the carbon deposits out of the cylinder" haha, If you have carbon build up in your chamber than you have some other more major problems, i.e. your truck is running way to cold.
