Weird electrical problem - Intermitent warning light
I have a relatively new alternator (1 1/2 years old, only about 10k miles) on my 2002 Excursion. I noticed last week as I was getting on the highway that the "battery" idiot light came on when the RPM got high (about 3000 RPM.) Over the last week I noticed it was coming on more often and at lower RPM.
Today, I was driving on the freeway and the light would come on when ever the RPM got over 2K RPM.
I haven't had a chance to check anything with the multimeter yet. Anyone have and idea that jumps out at them?
A lot of forum people have had bad luck with aftermarket alternators .. Sounds like it's bad.. have it checked by Auto Zone or some other auto part store.. But, make sure the connector on the alternator is tight and the wires are not rubbing on anything.. Also check the main wire harness that goes over the driver's side valve cover.. it been know to rub on the cover..
