Looking for a good anti theft system for my 2003 F250. Here in the Jackson MS area, the F250 is one of the top stolen vehicles. Saw a security video from a local hotel, took the thief 27 seconds to steal a 2006 F250 without a key. Although I live in the suburbs, I occasionally have to journey into the war zone.
I've done some research on the forums. Ravelco looks great but it is pretty much out of the question since the nearest dealer is 6 hours away.
I'm not so much interested in a tracking system because, around here, they are usually stripped within just hours of when stolen. I'm looking for something that is a true immobilizer system.
The revelco can be purchased without going through a dealer. I bought my on ebay. If you are comfortable working on your truck then you can put one in yourself. The base of the revelco has 5 wires on it, 1 is a ground the other ones are for circuit interruption. There are 2 circuits, 4 wires. You find 2 items that you want to control, starting circuit, fuel pump etc. You splice this in to the circuits, if the plug is not in then the circuit is open. You have to hide the wires under the dash so it is not obvious what wires were cut.
I've been a cop for 25 years and in Auto Theft for the last 6. You'er right about Ford trucks getting stolen and stripped quick. I've worked many thefts that had anti-theft or tracking equipment, but I've never worked a theft on a vehicle that had a kill switch.
That was the first thing I had my mechanic do when I bought my '04 F350
