Guys, I was able to get a carfax report pulled by "Beefcake" over on my '99-'03 PSD forum, so thanks to him for that!!
The truck shows exactly what the owner says as far as ownership and all, it does show a "minor" accident when it was still pretty much new under Avis' ownership to the right front, and a recent accident in June of this year where FHP did a report-I questioned the owner and he says a large 4X4 truck unexpedidly backed up at a light causing damage to the front bumper, brackets, grille, and 1 headlight but NO paint of frame damage-this guy seems honest so far and I am going to try & go check the truck out on Thursday-this truck is a LOADED XLT SuperCab (4doors) that looks very nice and straight in the pics he's sent me, doesn't appear to have been altered or modded in any way which it what we want for our 17 year old Great Niece to start with.
So, IF its in fact a "Flex-Fuel" truck and its been run on a common 10% ethinol mix will that damage the FF module as suggested in a previous post response? I know of no way NOT to introduce the 10% ethinol to any gasoline powered vehicle around here execpt to fill at a marina where I understand fuel is still available W/O ethinol.
I thought that was the purpose of FF to be able to run the ethinol-laced fuels.......
Is there something in the truck's VIN that would tell me for sure that its a FF or not??
All cars/trucks today are designed to run some ethinol, up to 10%. The "Flex-Fuel" engines are designed to run the E-85 ethinol, big difference. The eight digit of the VIN should be a "U" if it's a gas and a "V" if it's felx-fuel. Guess my old shop manual does come in handy. I have about the exact same truck but with the 4.0L 4x4.
Dave
Thanks, smalltrucker!! This 3.0 IS a flex fuel truck.
I don't know anything about these flex fuel vehicles but I can't understand a 10% ethanol mix doing any harm.........I know my '97 TBird 4.6 pings under hard accelleration on 87 octane 10% ethanol mix, and our '06 P T Cruiser GT H O Turbo doesn't even like the 93 octane stuff anymore........
Yea, The one I'm looking at is the same color as yours-I actually think that $3500-$4000 isn't too bad for a 1 documented owner loaded truck like this with average miles..
Romod. You have to pull the hatmonic balancer off right? Do you need a puller for that. Did you buy the puller?
Yes I bought a puller kit from autozone that also pulls steering wheels,,,I was just going to rent it from them but the darn thing was out and I didn't want to wait around for it to come back so I bought one myself so I could get the job done,it was 15 bucks I believe,I did rent a puller for the power steering pump also so I could get it out of the way, but I couldn't get that pulley to budge so I had to leave it on and work around it which was a PITA!
Romod. Thanks for answering the question. Supercab it looks like you lost romod and myself help, now and in the future. Good luck with the truck. Oh and by the way you are seriously over paying for it
Guys, Hey, Sorry, I sure didn't intend to come here and cause trouble, I was refering to the fact I had asked about what to look for out look out for on 2000ish Rangers because of a possible purchase-then we got off a bot when we started talking about tools and taking engines apart for repair, and I really don't think that was relevent to the discussion-anyway, sorry! AND THANKS for all the suggestions and help!!
