The calipers on the rear axle are opposite of each other?
You mean like upside down or one in front and one in back? 10/99 is a late 99 so it should be the same as the rest of the NBS trucks. Built in 98 are the early 99's that have a few differences here and there.
I have seen this arrangement on the early '99 SD. The local electrical power generating station bought a fleet of them back then. The ones, I've seen had them mounted that way. IIRC, my nephew's e'99 F250 had the same configuration.
Mine has a caliper in front of the wheel on one side. There was a recall about ten years ago or so but I wasn't worried about it so I didn't take it in. It is a little more vulnerable in front of the wheel.
My build date is 05/99. Left rear caliper is in front of the rotor and right rear is behind. There is a massive guard around the caliper. Must be ok that way because I have never had any issues in 260k miles ( knock on wood...)
I consider my truck a "mid year 99" model because it has late 99 power train and early 99 suspension components.
Just checked and mine is that way also, man'fd 04/99. One forward, one aft.
Anybody know if it was a diff caliper setup for other 99/00 models? I just ordered rear calipers and they are en-route. Now you got me worried I might not have the right ones.
It needs a new rear axle.
he took it to shop to have new bearings put in and such cause the carrier was moving.
It wore a ring in the shim and he bought new shims for the guy to put in and the guy put the old shims in and didn't set the backlash properly. So it's just trashed.
I'll just find a later gen3 10.5 and throw it in for him then.
