My project started just about 6 years ago. We were going to fix the passenger door and a few other things. Somehow (it's all a fog now) it slowly progressed to a full frame-off resto. We removed the engine first and I started researching engine upgrades. I decided to keep the 272 block but got a John Mummert "306" kit and a mild cam. Also upgraded to a Holly 600 CFM and some Red's Headders, and a few other tidbits. I work with a very talented tech and he agreed to build the engine. Joke was on him as this was his first Y-block and he studied a lot before even taking it apart.
Soon the truck was spread across three counties. Three years ago the frame was complete (blasted, treated, painted) and suspension in place. I took the frame up to the engine builder. It ran for the first time yesterday. Wow, does it sound good!
The body is painted and ready for installing:

I've been down many times during this project but I've gotta tell ya, when we cranked that thing up I really felt good.
DirtBoy,..Welcome back! haven't heard from you in awhile..Congratulations on the Lite-off, your Engine/drivetrain looks Great!.. and I'm glad to hear you rebuilt the Y-block! Those valve covers/headers/carb will look awesome with the yellow block and green cab.
I'm only imagining my panel in paint and you've got it done, congratulations. Everything looks super, take your time and don't scratch any of it. Did you use a base/clear on it.
