Alternator Issues...(again)

Soooo... I put a bosch alternator about 6 months ago. It packed it in a few weeks ago. So Lordco warranteed that one and gave me a new one. It lasted 2 weeks. I said to them I don't want to replace it with another bosch. I want an AC delco Alt. So they gave me a reman AC DELCO which is all that they had at the time. Now today I'm back out in the bush working and the new AC DELCO Alt packs it in... My question to you guys... Is there anything that could be frying these alts. ??? Or is it just bad luck with sh*& alts from lordco ??

Thanks Russ

I only have good luck with OEM alternators for Ford. The others will work for a while and then crap out. I do not know why but that has been my experience with several different trucks.

You hear that ED... OEM alts only !!!! hahaha... Ya both myself and highoctane (Ryan) have had brutal luck with Bosch alts. Once he went to the ac delco his problems ended.. Mine however have not ! I can't find any other issues with wiring in the system.

thats crazy, i would tear her down and see whats frying, or take it to an alt/start rebuild shop and have them tear it apart and see if they see somthing out of the norm? i ran a used one that lasted 2 months and been just running a new one from probly Orilleys or autozone, i forget where i got it, for over a year no probs. If you throw another one in have the trucks charging system check at a shop to see if they notice anything

If I get one torn down I won't be able to cash in on the warranty. I would get the system checked but they don't last long enough to get out of the bush and to a shop.. I believe the system is fine, but I will do that if I can !

There are few things I believe that on, but when it comes to CPS and ALternators, i get tired of changing them out every 6 months when the oems usually last years.

Doing good. Not sure what Alternator I have, but it has been going strong for about 5 years now. Picked it up in Sumner. Of course, you've seen all the things I'm powering up. I'll send you a PM tomorrow morning. Gonna hit the bed.

One thing to check is the batteries. A bad battery will kill an alternator.

And a bad alternator will kill a couple good batteries I've heard as well.... The batteries are a week old... both of them new ! Costco batteries that I've heard nothing bad about yet. However... just because they are new doesn't mean they are bad I guess. Checked voltage on them tonight and they are at 12.67 and I put the charger on them. we'll see if they are good in the am..

If I had your truck I'd give mine away

Russ I have a shop down here that builds alternators for me, (rebuilds). He does a great job when dependability is the key. Let me know and I will go by and get one and ship it your direction. The one on my old truck is 190 amps at an idle and has been running since 1988. I have several others as well.

Thanks Mark.... I'll keep you posted as to what happens. Right now I'm in the bush and can't deal with the B.S. myself.. I'm having a alt brought in today so I can finish this job. Just hope this next one lasts until the 20th of Dec when I'm done.

Thanks again.. ttys

Well guys.. got the new alt in last night.. fully charged batteries. Fired it up and let it idle for about 15 mins all is good. Charging beautifully at 14.5 volts. Ran great all day today and it was a great day. On the way back to the camp... batterry light started flashing.. looked up at the volt meter and she was falling.. No charging out of the alt in one day !!!!! NOW WHAT... Its either something with the truck that is killing these things or they are just simply SH*& alternators from Lordco. The last 2 have been reman's from AC delco.. but they are remaned FOR ac delco... ?????????? I'm at a loss for what could be wrong with the trcuks system.. I've looked over it pretty good I think.
