We have had similar problems from the delco-remy alternators that Deere used, Do you have a volt/ohm meter with you? If so you can start hunting for a short.

Yup I do have a meter with me mark.. where do I start hunting mark.. (thats what I'm trying to do.. conduct a professional hunt.... lol) If its that big of a short to toast alts like that.. I think you would have some serious sparks flyin wouldn't you ??? If there was a short, I guess it would be in a positive cable somewhere ??? I don't know ?? Just doesn't make sense to me. Sh*& alts ??????
Whats the stock Amperage on these Alts ??? I'm thinking I need a bigger one ! Why would the original one last 7 yrs and now I can't get a lordco one to last more than a week ????
Unless you have extraordinary power requirements, it is more than sufficient to run the stuff on the truck and keep the batteries both fully charged, too.
If you idle for LONG periods with the heater and headlights on, that might make a difference.

Thanks Pop.... I don't idle for long periods with anything on. I do have some driving lights that I run.... but I've had those on the truck since I owned it and no problems until now. I think these crap rebuilt alts are the issue here ! Once out of the woods I will be getting something different... If I get out of here !
OEM BABY! SERVES YOU RIGHT STEPPING OUT ON ME. YOU CHEATER...
Ed .. I wish I could have gotten it from you... Everytime this thing has gone I've been in the middle of BF nowhere. Now I've had to get if from the local Ford dealer in a town 3 hours away.. They are shipping it to a town which is an hour away and somehow I have to get it from there. I may get a 200 amp from somewhere and have this OEM one for a spare since OEM rules and they are so reliable !

Russ, Ed would be happy to run that up to you because that is just the kind of "special" guy that he is.

Thought you were finishing that last feb. ????? WTF. Probably could bring em... but not without a lot of paper work and hassles at the border. NOt really worth it when there is plenty of them up here.

I have been procrastinating, but we're thinking of driving the Alcan this summer, and to stay on topic I can bring you an alternator
