I finally got the engine pulled out of my ford parcel delivery type truck. The 360 engine smoked and ran very badly. I discovered 4 badly bent pushrods, but I expected to find a blown piston, due to the way it smoked.
The pistons look good and from the ridge (or lack of a significant one)at the top of the cyls., I don't believe this engine has many miles on it.
I don't have the .0040 over pistons removed yet.
My question is could stuck rings make this motor smoke so badly I couldn't see out the rear? The exhaust manifold was broken and the motor in this vehicle sets under a doghouse like the early vans used to do. When I started it the smoke would run me out of the cab!
This is the first FE engine I have had apart . I have rebuilt a 302, but this engine is going to kill me. I had to use a hoist just to get the intake removed.
Anyway is there any special areas or things out of the ordinary that I should check for (to account for the smoke?) I bought the vehicle in this condition and all I know about its history is that it sat for at least 5 years without being started. Thanks in advance!
You may have had some collapsed oil rings and or even check out if the valves are seated correctly and the seals in the heads. Valves not put in right could be the cause of the bent pushrods, had it happen to me before.
