I thought about putting a big magnet on the bottom of the oil pan, but it would pickup all kind of road metal.
Hmmm... why would it pick up road metal? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the magnet idea. I always just assumed you would put the magnet on the inside of the oil pan, to mimic the magnet you're losing by taking out the stock oil drain plug. Or is the idea to just stick it to the outside, and get one that's still powerful enough to attract particles thru the oil pan wall? If that's the case, then yes, I could see it picking up road metal.
If you have access to an old hard drive take it apart and place the magnets around the fumoto valve. Those magnets are pretty strong. I use two magnets on mine.

Those magnets are super strong! Try and put two together and try to pull them apart with out turning them....
Anyway, in most cases you will be fine by using the "quick plug", but there is always that chance. But if you own a 6.0 you are always taking a chance LOL. The 6.0 is a good engine and runs awesome when running properly. The key to a 6.0 is maintenance. I have a friend with an 05 6.0 and he has 180k er so miles on it. The only thing i have done is one injector and i cleaned the turbo due to sticking vanes!!!
If you are going to take oil samples often for testing such as Bismic and other members of this forum, then i think the "quick plug" would be a great addition to your vehicle. Makes life a lot easier to get a little oil out, with out making a huge mess.
The other thing about the Fumoto valve coming open accidently is that it takes two very distinctly different motions for it to open. Virtually impossible under random circumstances, and like Beach said.....if you get that close you probably FUBARed something on the suspension anyway.

I think what people fear is not the valve opening, but having the valve "hang down" below the bottom of the oil pan?
The valve to open is a pull the level down and slide to the side to unlock and open.. two seperate motions that can not happen unless on purpose.
Oh well... I guess Fumoto oil drain valves are now in the same category as:
Oh heck yes... there are those individuals that swear that WIX filters are just as good and they would never use a Framm!!!
There are those that state they use "will-fit" filters and have never had a fuel or oil related problem... so therefore, that is proof enough that it is good enough for them.
There are those that claim that if OEM is the ONLY way to go, then Ford should provide the filters for free per the Magnumm-Moss act (or whatever it is called).
There are those that claim that some of the "will-fit" filters offer warraties and satisfaction guarenteed... so why not save some money... they will repair your truck if it damages it (obviously you have to prove it beyond a dought - which is hard to do)... but they buy into the marketing hype.

And there are those that can read and are still illiterate.
I don't like that the Fumoto valve hangs down and appears to be vulnerable to being knocked off. (But it is behind the axle so I hope it is OK! Time will tell)
I do like that it has a short spout that will take a piece of tubing and that the flow of oil can easily be stopped if the drain container is full. Using the Fumoto you can easily drain your oil back into the original 5 qt jugs. Makes it a lot quicker than draining into a large pan and pouring that through a funnel into the jugs for disposal.
I have a drain container that holds the oil from the change easy enough, but it comes out so fast at first that it overwhelms the speed of the oil entering into the container and has come very close to creating a huge mess. I'm definitely thinking about a drain valve for that reason as well.
