So after my truck started surging and dieing when i tried to start it a few weeks ago, i got some info from here mostly thanks by the way, and unplugged the icp sensor. truck ran better but still not the same so i replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, then did the hutch mod, and now that it is cooling off a little more it is acting up again. just tonight after a 10 hour sit time i tried to start my truck with the icp unplugged and it would barely sputter, smoked to high hell mostly gray little black. plugged the icp back in still smoked a little but after a couple tries fired up and idled and ran fine. glow plugs and relay are not very old at all so im stumped at this point unless the ipr is bad but i have no idea how to know that or if it is something else entirely, and no codes either. thanks for the help in advance.
How do you check the ipr to see if its good or not? this morning when starting the truck fired up pretty slugishly then idled fine but i could hold the throttle to the floor and it would do nothing. was like that for a couple minutes then it was fine.
Here is how you would rebuild your IPR.. (if it has debris in it, that could cause your problem).. New Page 0
but, i would have someone check your fault codes first..
You're really better off getting a scanner on it and monitoring live data before you just start throwing parts at it.
If your truck runs or starts better with the ICP unplugged, then you really should replace it. Driving with it unplugged works to get you home, but it's not something you should do on a regular basis, especially with a tuner flash. What happens if you unplug the MAP sensor and try to start? Better or worse?
Just because your glow plugs and GPR are new doesn't mean you shouldn't test them with a meter to ensure they are working properly.
