So my truck no longer blows hot air (only I do says the wife), so instead of flushing my heater core I'm going to do a replacement!!!...Thing is I don't have alot of experience doing this and I definatly don't have a garage. I am very mech inclined and should ahve no problem getting it done but experienced advise is like having the gold waiting on you at the end of the rainbow. If anyone can help me out with this it would be much appreciated!
Thanks ---Rob---
Two questions; give exact description of your truck; would help us breakdown the issue. Sounds like a bad Thermonstat; or heater coil.
Also maybe a fellow local member would allow ya access to either thier shop or garage to get ya out of the cold and make life easier to replace and repair.
Alright, my air blows on all the diff settings but no heat ever...I haven't done a heater core flush and since I have to pull the dash anyways to work on my guages I figured I would just replace the core. Guy I bought it from told me that the heat or air hasn't worked for years.
As for somewhere to do the work it would be nice to have a garage (I would be willing to trade work for garage time for sure), but as your the only response so far, I think it's going to be a cold job ahead of me.
BTW...we just found out today my wife was offered a job transfer to Hermitage...if she takes it then we wouldn't be too far from you at all. and we love Clarksville!
Love to have ya over here; also I still recommend checking to see if you have a thermosat in the intake? If flowing well; but no heat seems to tell me that yuo either have no T-sat or if stuck wide open.
We love Hermitage...before we had our daughter we used to come to Nashville/Clarkesville just about every weekend for a dart tourny. We love it up there.
I will check the t-stat today on my break...is there anyway to check to make sure I have flow to/from my HC?
Back to my intial reply; what type of truck is it? If Desiel your on your own with me; but if its a normal gas gusslier; there are two heater hose running too & from your fire wall and one should be into your intake area and the other around your water pump. The only way to really check your Thermonsat is to remove its housing and if pop open (Sprung spring) I would bet its bad; I wouldn't also be surprise if there's not one in it; if your not the orginial owner and especially if its a older truck like what I drive.

No heat OR air leads me another direction. First when the truck is warw grab the heater hoses under the hood. If both of them are warm you have heat. I would check your ducts to see if a nest is in there or something. Both heat and air do not usually go out on these trucks.
It should br easy. Take the box apart under the hood. It should be 5 or 6 screws, I think 5/16" will get them out. Just take the side of the box off closes to the engine. Clean it out. Not a hard job.
If it's like an 82 or 85, the mounting screws for the box are behind the glove box in the cab (sorry 'bout the late post). The whole unit comes out real easy, and can be gone through.
