water pump rant
Sorry I enjoy my 150 its a good truck but I just have to rant about this. So the rig has 161k on her and the gasket between the water pump and timing cover was leaking. No big deal I figured id just replace the whole thing with that many miles on it so I'm not doing it again next week when the pump goes lol. So I figured an hour at best with moving the p/s and ac brackets and fan whatnot. 6 hours later I was done. Now I was wondering what ford was thinking running noncoated bolts through aluminum, a steel plate, more aluminum and into an iron block........ I broke 3 bolts off one short and 2 long ones with the studs because they were corroded so bad they froze to the aluminum. I got lucky that I have tools that most people don't have like a torch and welder to carefully heat the cover and weld a nut on the end of one bolt the others required a stud puller. And they were so bad it took an hour apiece to spin them out of the block. I love my truck but damn I can do my blazer in 15 minutes 4 bolts thru an iron pump to an iron block no corrosion possible no brackets in the way vs bracket blocked 7 or 8 bolts thru a multimetal corrosion breeding water pump sandwich
