74 302 Timing cover/Water pump

Working/spending money on my 74 F100 302. Three on tree,2wd. I came to the point that I got me a rebuilt engine, it's sitting in garage floor. In the process of removing water pump, timing cover, to put cover on new engine. One of the bolts that went thru the pump, and cover and screws into block, broke off. There was some crap in the hole in cover that would not let bolt pull thru. Finally it broke off at the block. In trying to save the core, I tried to drill it. Tried driving a ez out in, and snapped it off. This might be bad for the core. Now to my real question. How should I put the new bolts thru the cover, and pump into the block, so if I ever need to change the water pump in the future, this want happen again? Such as what kind of sealer, and such would be best? The bolts will go thru the pump, and then the cover, into the block. Any advice from experience would be great. Even after breaking the bolt off, I stil had to press the broken part out of the cover!

What would anyone say to me using a double ended stud? Thought about this approach yesterday evening while working on it for a few minutes. Still waiting for any comments?

Use of anti-seize compound on the bolts and in the timing cover bolt holes will eliminate the problem in the future. Some new covers have bigger bolt holes. If using the old cover, use a drill bit to clean all the corrosion out of the holes.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen other recomendations to use plenty of never seize. I have already cleaned out the holes with a drill bit. Still cleaning up swapover parts right now, the cover, oil pan, couple other items. I haven't been in a big hurry, plus pulled a muscle in my calf a week and half ago, just by walking. Take meds to keep on trucking, and they cause other problems, just like working on one of my trucks. I have F1 1950 that was my first truck I ever bought, back in 82, the 74, a 79, a 85, and 99 250. Seems like they are kinda addictive? None of them are real purty, but they are family.
