Hey all. This is my first post. This site looks amazing so far!
So here is my question/ request for information. I have done hours of research and can not find anything about the heater I have in my truck. It is a 1951 Ford F-3. The heater I have was mentioned to me as rare. It is a climate control system but beauitfully primitive. I have 5 pull ***** for my heater controls alone. everything from defrost, vent, floor and two others i can not remember at this time. I will post those tomorrow when I get a chance. Also there is a large metal bellow looking tube that runs from my upper cab corner, along the inside of the fender, then has an opening to the front grille. I really want to know is that if this is rare or common. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Jason, welcome to the forum! The heater you're describing isn't rare, exactly, but it is desirable. It is the Magic Air heater that was an option in Ford trucks of the day. As you've noticed, it is designed to bring in fresh air from outside instead of just recirculating the same old air inside the cab.
If you've got some pictures, we'd love to see them! In fact, pictures of newbie's trucks are manditory here. lol!
I agree with Wayne that this sounds like a Magic Aire Heater. It (variations) was one of two optional heaters installed on Ford trucks through out the late 40s and into the mid 50s.
We've had quite a few in depth discussions about these here at FTE from motor replacement to parts restoration and reproduction. I know two of our members that are actually making parts for these and restore them.
Here are a few pics:
If there is a specific area or problem you are having with the heater, let us know and I'm sure we can post the prior threads for that.
Yes!! Ah info! I'll be stripping it all down this week. I'll have plenty of pictures by then. At least I know what it is now. My 1951 F1 before this had a basic heater system in it. I'm just in a debate with myself on if I should keep this system or sell it. My cab and front clip are going onto a 78 k20 4x4 frame. I want a heater but I dont know if this system is one I should use. And, of course, if I don't use it, I'm pretty sure someone out there must want some of the parts. My body swap is a huge endeavor I have taken on. It will be extremely different. Thank you for all the info. If i get a chance tomorrow to post some pics of the system, I will for sure.
