There was a lengthy discussion about FEs in F-100 about 2 weeks ago for Bonus and Econimy Built Trucks. They're aren't many (1 maybe 2) choices there.

Here is that discussion as just food for thought - although you do have more room in an F-100 and there are products made for that conversion.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...into-52-a.html

Of those products, your best bet is the Sanderson Header specifically made for F-100/FE Conversions:

The Sanderson FF427 header set is designed to fit 1953-Up Ford F100 pickups using the Ford 332-428 FE engines.

This header will NOT fit on a 48-52 F-series with an FE.

I have a 1955 F100 with a 390/C6. I also have a Heidt's IFS which made putting my 390 in a challenge. I am using Sanderson's shorty 390 headers. I installed them following their instructions (without gaskets) and have not had a problem. Sanderson makes a very good product and I have used several sets on various projects.

Yes………….…and No!

Yes, as many on this site use this make and I have not heard any complaints and I have them....... so I sure hope so! The flange has a metal bead that a high temperature silicone seal goes on, I guess if no gaskets then they can’t blow out? They look great and make more model specific with engine change then anyone (and fit).

No, ………………………because I’m not up and running yet !

Julie would NEVER tell you bad!!!!

Put in your location code sometime, please?

I think I have the Same Police Interceptor Headers that Julie had. I'll take some pictures of the 390 sitting in my 56. Seems to fit well but the engine is raised up a bit and slightly askew.

Sorry it took so long on those pictures!

Here is a picture of the clearance from exhaust to steering box which is stock

Here is a picture of the passenger side exhaust to engine mount clearance. Its VERY tight but fits. If you look inside the loop of the wireset its where the exhaust seems to sit almost on the mount. Its close but they dont touch.

Picture of the driver side from under.

If you look at where the mount connects to the frame you can see "spacers" under it to lift the engine up a bit.

and you can see how it sits a bit askew

Yes you do! Guard those with your life! I sold mine for over $600! Your motor mount scheme is fairly different than mine too. Looks like your yields more room!

Here's a set on e-bay:

Well I thought they were something special. Were these factory installs? Do you know what casting numbers I should look for on an interceptor intake? I've been told that this 390 may have one of those as well.

Hmm.. Your engine looks slightly cleaner than mine... I wish I had this thing registered or I would be driving to a spray and wash right now...

I don't have the intake manifold numbers. My PI engine was built up for me by the engine shop after they discovered a block crack around a freeze plug in my regular 390. I put an Edelbrock manifold on it during the build up.

You can tell very easily if you have a 390 Police Interceptor. You will have adjustable mechanical lifters - not hydraulic, and cast iron rocker caps - not aluminum.

if your using the stock steering box and have a regular style motor crossmember then I think the sandersons will work. I have a '54 with a toyota box and a (looks to be a) homemade crossmember....I might have to use one side from one set and the other side from another set, hopefully sanderson will let me.
