I have a 01 F350 CC. I recently took off the covering on the back wall to mount a sub-woofer box. I noticed that there are 2 vents the go right to the outside. I can actually stick my finger thru them and touch the front of the bed.
What are these for? And can I cover them?
I want less road/exhaust noise (its a PSD) inside the cab, so I would like to cover the whole back wall with a sound barrier sheet...
I was going to insulate my back wall too. If you cover the vents it may be harder to close the door when the winows are up. With the vents there the pressure that builds up when a door is being closed exits through them. I don't know how air tight these trucks are but it may or may not make a difference. When I do mine i'm going to cut out around the vents just to be safe.
i can say this, they dont allow all of the water to drain out of the cab properly. i had to open the door to get the last foot out and i got my feet wet!
Covering the vent will cause the cab to act like a green house. All the mosture, and what not will have no where to go. Causing water to contiuously condensate on the glass, as well as lock in any "CO" that might get into the cab causing a safty hazzard.
Now I know it's easy to open a window, but "CO" can kill quickly. I'd leave the vents alone.
While Will makes some good points, I just thought I would post and say I did cover mine, and have had no problems whatsoever, condensation or otherwise.
I tried covering them and had no problems all summer, but as soon as winter set in things started getting sticky. It didn't seem to dry out well... finally remembered plugging them so I unplugged them and all was good again.
I guess the good folks at Ford know better than I.
