BFG's are a good looking a/t tire, but they mostly stop there. They are a decent tire overall, but not for what you pay for them, IMHO. Michelins are absolutely good tires, and worth what you pay for them, if you can. But do our country a favor and buy something made here in the states. Goodyear, michelin, and cooper are just a few of the big names that make good tires here. I have the Cooper STT's on my truck and like them a lot, but they are going to be more aggressive than what you are looking for. My buddy has the Cooper A/t's and likes them a lot.
Tirerack.com has reviews and ratings on their website. One thing with buying online, a lot of shops mount tires for free when you purchase from them and offer free rotation, so by the time you factor in the charge to mount and balance your tires and consider the PITA its going to be if you have a warranty issue, you might be better off buying local.
... if you have a warranty issue, you might be better off buying local.
Even if you buy local, the manufacture is still the one backing the warranty. So, it doesn't matter where you buy. ANY "authorized" dealer/installer still has to deal with the manufacture. If the manufacture doesn't want to back the warranty, then you're screwed.
That was the problem I had with Michelin after getting a bad set of tires (known immediately after installation). Even the Ford dealership was baffled with how Michelin handled the problem set of tires.
It wasn't as if I didn't like the tires. The truck was unstable with them. So, I either had to deal with the instability while driving, or park it and wait for 2 to 3 weeks while Michelin decided what to do, or buy new tires and deal with getting a refund.
So, I bought another set of tires from a different manufacture.
