Block heater

I don't have a owners manual for my 91 F250 7.3 turbo and was wondering how long can I , or should I leave the block heater pluged up before I crank the truck? Can I just plug it in at night and leave it until the morning or should I plug it in in the morning before I start it up?

What you can do, is get a timer and set the timer to come on about 3 hours before you get up....that way by the time your ready to go the truck will be nice and warm. Thats the best way to do it.

That said, for a while when it was ungodly cold out, whenever i wasnt driving mine i had it plugged in. That is really hard on the wallet though, these heaters suck ALOT of electric. Make sure you use a nice heavy extension cord too, and keep it as short as possible.
