I need to know what wires are what can't get the ol girl to start this morning its 20 degrees New glow plugs and new rely last week oem relay I have power to both big post on the relay and power to one small wire but not the other small wire i believe it's orange .
That wire is a ground, The PCM will ground the relay to turn on the GPR. Power is always available on one large post, and one small post (with the key on). When the PCM triggers the ground the other large post should become hot.
If it is not coming on with the key in run, you should look into the engine oil temp sensor, to make sure it is telling the PCM to turn on the GPR.
Still no luck can you tell me where the engine oil temp sensor is. My oil pressure is coming up when cranking on it I forgot to mention I am trying all this on my stock setting if it makes any difference.I did do a big NONO and gave it a shot of either and it will hit on it but I am not big on it so I am not going to give it any more I have a 01 also and it starts right up
The oil temp sensor is located on the back of the HPOP reservoir. It is right by the FPR on the fuel bowl. You may have to remove the Powerstroke cover if installed to see it easier.
You say you have power to the two big posts, that means it is working. The one post (single wire) is the feed from the batteries. The other post (two wires, S/B brown and yellow) go to the glow plugs. If you turn the key on and you have power to the GP Post it is working normal. After about two minutes the power will shut off though, so you may have to cycle the key again.
Silly answer but..... check and make sure your batteries are up to par. You can have enough to turn over the engine but it won't start unless the batteries are supplying enough voltage to fire the injectors. If you don't, it'll never start ! Charge 'em and try it. You can also plug in the block heater and see if that makes a difference. Good luck and keep us posted.
OK thanks i just read through the post at the top of the page I think I might have a weak battery I am goin to get some new ones and try that tomorrow I can move the neg post on my primary batter and it moves in the whole post kinda stumped me and it was cold today LOL so i didnt mess with it alot THANKS again for the replies this is a GREAT site eveyone is very helpful
