I am getting ready to Herculiner my bed. I have read many of the Herculiner posts and still have a question about the remaining rust after my prep.
My bed has just light rust covering the bottom of the bed which i have wire brushed and power sanded, but was wondering what to do at this point. Can i leave the remaining light rust and primer over or do i need to take it down to bare metal?
2nd Question, (Where i live, i cannot use a paint sprayer.)
What type of primer would you use? Rattle Can or is there something i can roll on?
Thanks Al
A rust converter (phosphoric acid) like Ospho etc, or a rust encapsulator Sem, Eastwood etc, will work. Encapsulator will also double as primer. Only suggestion I'll make is unless you like the faded gray look you get after Herculiner is exposed to sunlight, I'd choose something else.
Agreed with the grey factor!! Hurculiner fades and gets ugly. If your doing it yourself use the dupli-color bed armor. If your having it done get rhino
Herculiner is really bad never lasts the new dupli color bed armor is better but no way durable my dog peeled it off the bed. I used Al's liner great stuff and super durable Al's Liner. DIY Truck Bed Liners!R & E Paint Supply. Al's Liner Bed Liner, Black, Truck Bed Liners by the way if you go this route I used a texture gun from harbor freight for 20.00 and it has been great for the last 2 years no fading either.
