Mechanic Question(s)

Blue Smoke at Start Up(sometimes)
Water level staying full

Batteries are less than 30 days old

Will Not Start
(Cranks Over)

Has a viper alarm with remote start that will not push button start it either

No RPM's

Where do I start first??????

Been reading and I think I need to check the FCIM volts????

Do you have a code scanner? That would be a good place to start. FICM voltage is also a good check. "No RPM's" running might indicate a fuel problem. How old are your fuel filters and when was your last oil change?

I don't have a scanner at this time but I guess its a good time to by one! Which scanner is a good one to get that is affordable? I changed the oil and fuel filters about 1300 miles ago.

Does your viper remote start system have a delay to allow the glow plugs to warm up?

Easy way to check is just sit in your drivers seat and hit the remote start button, if it starts turning over before the coil light goes off, that could be a problem.

But a healthy truck would usually start any way. I'd check FICM voltage like Tim said.

Yes it does have a delay but now when I push the button its does not do anything. It won't make any sounds at all.

Does anyone know can I just unplug the alarm?

that alarm would block the starter from cranking if it was trying to prevent theft

but the amount of intrusive wiring that they need underdash may be your issue ?

pulling it out would be a chore also because of that ..

it has more than the brain module so just unplugging it may have issues but I would probably try it at some point ,, the remote start did it fail at the same time as the no start?

when u cycle the key does the truck make all the normal sounds?

No it didnt happen at the same time. I walked out after it sat for the night and it tried to start with the remote start but would not start. Now when I try to use the remote it wont do anything. I am testing the FCIM tomorrow due to the fact that I dont have a good battery for my volt meter.

UPDATE Checked the FICM and it is 48.2volts while trying to crank. That is were it should be correct????????????????

Checked the batteries and they were low so I used a second set I have.

Also made sure that the fuel shut off was still down(like it should be right)?

What to do next?

Pull the secondary fuel filter cap and see if it's full of fuel.

Are you getting any smoke while cranking??

Pop the hood, there will be two filter housings at the top center of the engine, it's the smaller of the two.
