I built the trans abought 1000 or so miles ago shifts perfect always firm . Has a BTS tugger kit with valve body and there pump. Also added a 6.0 cooler. It has never went in revers like i would like . yesterday i had the truck parked in my shop door witch is a slite grade truck fired right up put in R nothing truck still ideling put it in d nothing put it in P and reved it for a second got thinking it may have a leak looked nothing ,checked fluid good, got in truck went in reverse slow but firm back down drive way was fine . All shifts today was good . One other ting is that while i was backing up the drive in revers it was like the convertor was locking up are the stall was going very tite. Ant thoughts on this . I am worried this being linre pressure issue. Going to try to check pressure soon . It just shifts so good but reverse........ help or ideas 99 psd 2 wheel drive
BTS is a great name. Was the pump new or a rebuilt, if there is such a thing?
I am not all that good with transmissions to help much. When mine was going south it was taking forever to go into reverse. The pump was going out. Hopefully somebody with more knowledge will come along. I think there is a transmission forum down further too.
Inappropriate converter lock can be due to the pump's pressure regulator and boost valve malfunction.
A note I found in the Sonnax material I have:
To reduce delays into reverse, tighten up these clutch packs to: *Coast .020" *Direct .010" to .020" *Low/Reverse .010" to .020" NOTE: Alto makes a kit for reverse delay with thicker steels so you can tighten up all 3 clutch packs.
that sounds like what i would think but the book i had said not to worry with the clearence in the revers pack . I had quiet a bit but dont remeber what it was but i thought they had left a set out one steal and one friction so i dig through my junk and thants what was in it same number and steals was same thickness. I almost shimmed it with one extra shim. Also the tugger said somthing of a quick fill valve . Pop you dont dave a scanner do you ? I would love to read the instructions of the sun stuff. pmbmax@hotmail.com i am going to pull engine this winter for a freshen up. so may have easy access to the trans again. it just comes and goes i wish i could fix it just kinda anoying . Also another thing is that mine is a pto unit but no pto it just has the ring gear and side cover but the smaller valve body was swapped with a none pto unit BTS said it didnt matter as lon as i never used the pto wich i dont and have no use for. Any help MARK . Thanks Phil
