Trusted 6.0 PSD Work Needed

Hey anyone in Indiana that can recomend a really good 6.0 mechanic is East Central Indiana?

I'd love to do the work myself but I don't have a garage that I can get my Excursion into and I am having surgery in a couple of weeks that will keep me from being able to lift.

I need to get a block heater installed and get an EGR valve and cooler delete kit installed

I truct there must be someone here that can point me in the correct direction.

Thanks!

Are you sure you need a block heater? All of the 6.0L engines came w/ the heater - just not the elctrical cord.

He has an 04 so it probably came with everything. The plug-in is really hard to find because of the way it's "packaged" from the factory. It's usually wrapped in the harness right behind the front bumper just to the passenger side of the license plate.

This is EXACTLY why I asked for a trusted mechanic and why I asked you guys at FTE. A less than trustworthy mechanic would have simply unpacked the cord and charged me for a whole heater and the labor to put it on.

And asking you guys here usually provides the little details that you need to keep from being taken advantage of or from looking like a newby moron.

I will check a little later today to make sure that I have one. Previously, I was told to look under the battery on the drivers side. Are they all packaged under the bumper to the passengers side of the license plate?

Here are some pics for you:

Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums - bismic's Album: Block heater cord locations

The first is where the plug in goes if you DON'T have a cord (above the starter next to a freeze plug).

The second is a pic of the cord tucked on under the bumper (passenger side) - I believe where ALL of them were located.

The third is a pic of the cord plugged into the heater.

IIRC at some point in 04 or 05 Ford started doing away with block heater CORDS on all vehicles not destined for "cold weather" states to save on production costs, so your 04 may or may not have a heater cord. If it's there then it's on the passenger side of the front license plate behind the bumper and they did a GOOD job of hiding them.

Thanks Bismic! After owning this truck all of these years I just finally found this cord! Got it plugged in a keeping it warm....... Should the truck be left plugged in all of the time if I'm not driving it every day, or should I just plug in the day before I drive it??

It takes mine about 3 hours at ~30* to start well and mine is CRANKY when it's cold. IIRC the current draw is pretty expensive if you leave it plugged in all the time. I think the estimate was like $3 a day (depending on your power company). A timer works great and saves $$$.
