Angry Fed Up With My 6.0L PSD

I own a business and it's absolutely neccesary to have a reliable truck. We had a '97 F-350 7.3L PowerStroke and it was great for my business. Now we have a 2007 F-250 6.0L PowerStroke and it's starting to **** me off. Today the truck ran great all morning and then it just wouldn't start. It has 63,000 miles. The tow truck came from CHENOWETH FORD and my road side assistance just went out 3,000 miles ago and I had to pay $265 for the damn tow bill. Now the truck is in the shop and I'm weighing the options. Duramax or to a gasser truck. I just feel like this truck is JUNKED! In 2 months it has held my business up 3 times for a total of 2 weeks!! Here's all I've had done to it since it was new: 2 injectors replaced, EGR Valve Replacement (failure), EGR Cooler replacement (failure), and now this and I have no idea what's wrong now. What can I do?

U did not say what type of business. If it has a lot of idle time, the 6.0 does not like that. Check into the 6.0 forum and run it by them. A lot of the problems with those has to do with egr cooler/system. There is an egr delete setup but i think it requires u to change head studs. We just had one at work lose a motor at 76k with oil changes every 5k. 15k later it has a new motor. I would argue the tow bill with the dealer since it is still under the 5yr/100k miles warranty. I had a 6.0 and backed up to a 7.3 for the reasons u are describing.

The new 6.2 gas is a stout engine. We have a few of them with no problems to date. The company had so much trouble with the diesels when 6.4 came out, they started buying v10's instead and have few problems out of those.

If there is another ford dealer nearby, take it to them on next failure. Not all ford dealers have equally trained experienced techs in diesel. We have one really good one here that we use quite a bit but its not the closest one to us.

All the work you have done is normal for a 6.0. Extended idling will clog EGR valves, so just turn the truck off.

I feel you brother, mine has been at the dealer for 14 days for injector repalcement. Shop manager says, Ford keeps asking him to run different tests before he can go ahead and put the new injector(s) in it. I am thinking seriously of going back to a gas burner myself.
And I love my 250!

2 weeks for egr & oil coolers and it took 3 days for local dealer to change motor out in 550 4x4. I was amazed at that.

I own a business as well, and had a 6.0 in 2005 thru 2008 and that damn thing was in the shop at least 20 times for all kinds of stuff and they would not cover it all under warranty. It only gets worse, dump it before it costs you big time. I can't even remember all the stuff that failed on it, but here is a short list; 4 injectors, fuel pump, fan clutch, egr valve three times, turbo three times, egr cooler twice, vaccum pump twice I had to pay for that, high pressure oil pump seal, some cooling hose that cost $500.00 I had to pay for that, and all that in less than 50,000 miles. Dump that pig. I bought a new truck with a 5.4 and it is much more reliable and the fuel bill is way less.

I got rid of my '06 PSD with only 31,000 miles on it and traded it in on a '08 V10. Now you can only get the V10 in a 450 or 550 cab and chassis. If you need Diesel, then go for the 2011 PSD, from what I have read, they are pretty reliable.

I pulled the pin on my 05 6.0 just because I couldn't afford for it to be broke down like yours is. I need a truck to make money and if its sitting in the shop, I'm not making any money.

I went to the 6.2 gasser and don't miss the 6.0 one bit.

Bayou is right, dump that sucker, I got rid of my 6.0psd about year and a half ago and couldn't be happier, at 45k miles it was beginning to have problems, and I just didn't trust it anymore. not to mention the fact that even though I was under warranty, they still found a way to pound a bill up my you know what. I switched to a f350 king ranch with v-10. no more expensive filters, (except the remote tranny filter) the v-10 makes great power, the fuel economy isn't what the 7.3 and the 6.0 are, but if you are thinking of getting a newer diesel, you may consider the v-10 because as I am sure you are aware that the newer diesels dont have the fuel economy going for them either. Good luck.

I have great luck out of my 6.4. But before I would suggest either the 6.4 or the 6.7 psd an evaluation of your use is required.

I think what some have encountered with the 6.0 is true and even more so with modern diesels and the emissions crap.

You have to change your driving style. By that I mean no idling, work it and work it hard. 6.4 is a hwy motor. towing or long extended driving at speed and it is great.

running to the store will kill it. Endless idling will kill it as well.

I bet the same to a great extent with the new 6.7. They have dialed the EGR back a bit but it still has the other stuff on it and it will not work well without running it hard some.

And then there's the 7.3.... not as fast, but @ 185,000 miles right now, I've had minimal issues. I run Rotella ELC coolant so no SCAs to worry about. Spare CPS in the glovebox but that's now a $25 part and you can change it in 15 minutes with basic handtools. I did just spend $1600 on a GTP38R turbo instead of rebuilding my stocker, but at 185k, that's not so bad is it?

Maybe a gasser is the way to go for you, but like others have said, if we know how you use your rig, we could probably offer so better suggestions.

I get that feeling too when I get told what a POS a 6.0 is, when 99.9% of the people taht say it have never owned one or even know the first thing about them.

By the way, I havent had any trouble with my 6.0

6.0

My 6.0 tried to put me in the poor house, I would not own one again. Within 3 years that truck ran up a 12 k repair bill. I ran it stock, with good maintenance, it just did not matter. If you need a diesel I recommend a 7.3. The newer diesel just have too much smog equipment that causes problems.

I purchased a new 2009 V10 in June of 2010 and they gave me a deal I could not walk away from. I pull my 10k Trailer without issuses. I LOVE MY V10, it simple works without issuses.

I don't think I will every get a new diesel because of the addtional smog equipment on them. It is expensive and it will fail. I hear good things about the new 6.2 Gas engine from ford, I would consider one of them.

I would love to know more about the people that have 6.0 and don't have problems. I spend a lot of time in RV parks and every person that has a 6.0 has had multiple problems.
