I bought a 2001 excursion 4x4 with the 7.3 powerstroke during the summer. It does not seem to have any power and the fuel mileage is garbage. The truck has the edge juice controller and even with the chip turned up it does not have the power that it should. What am I missing? I owned a older powerstroke (95) that had a similar problem except it turned out to be a exhaust mass flow sensor. Any direction on where to look to remedy my situation would be helpful.
Sorry that it has taken so long to respond been busy with other projects. It is always seems underpowered even after it has warmed up. I am thinking that maybe the turbo needs to be looked at closer it does not seem to spool up very fast. I am planning on changing the intake first, I think that will help a little. The 95 powerstroke that I owned previously was awesome. I was told that the 2001 was a better motor and so far I am not impressed. I know people that have the 7.3 in their excursions and pickups and are getting 18-20 mpg. I think its probably a combination of a couple things, just don't know what those couple of things are
18-20 thing is only during the Summer. Winter kills it by at least 3 mpg. Think the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve acts as an engine brake when its cold...
