Well after a tune-up the pickup runs a lot better now so I figured I'd start tracking down other issues.
I have a squeak that sounds like it's coming from right outside the driver's side windshield. It's not the windshield, it's more like the hood/fender/cowl area. I can see that all three do not move as one unit. The hood moves separately. Would this cause the squeak?
It is most prevalent at lower speeds with more bumps and flexing.
Any ideas? I've never had issues with the body of any vehicle that I've owned other than paint stuff so I have no idea as to where I should be looking. I thought mounts at first but then thought that they were under the body and not up top.
You could get a can of WD-40 and spray anyplace metal to metal you suspect, and get a can of silicone spray and spray on anything rubber you suspect. Or you could use the WD-40 on the rubber too it's not supposed to hurt rubber. If the squeak goes away, it will soon return. Then you can spray the areas one at a time until you find the squeak. Just a suggestion.
check the whole area for any loose bolts or cracks in the sheet metal around any bolts , missing fasteners , and check your body mounts on that side , also look for cracks around
the door hinges !
If you have a squeek type noise comming from the passenger side near the windshield, check to see if the corner mounting tab for the dash of broken. Its down between the lower dash and kinda behind the kick panel. Its common for the plastic tab to break. There is a metal replacement one that Ford used to offer, but its apparently discontinued now. You can repair it with parts from the hardware store if needed. This may not be your problem, but its easy to check.
Nope, the noise always comes from the same place and turning doesn't seem to effect it at all.
Shocks, I honestly never thought of them squeaking. They're dirty, that's about all I know about them. The rears have been replaced with air shocks sometime in the past so it's possible that the fronts were changed too, but I don't know how to tell.
Here's some quick shots I just took of the driver side suspension.

It looks like you have a bug shield. My 93 had a bug shield that made noise because it was broken and hitting the hood. It took acouple of months to figure it out. My friend caught it when riding with me. In the trash it went.
also check the radiator support at the 2 body mount. My was rust out to the point there was no more mounts left. So the whole frontend moved
(hood, fenders, grill) when going down the road.
